Climate Change Daily Vid Dec 11 2017: From France AFD Committed $160B to Fight Climate Change

As part of Climate Finance Day organized in Paris on 11 December, AFD is gathering a panel of international financial experts for its “Mainstreaming!” initiative. The aim is to get investors from all over the world to take greater account of the climate in order to speed up financing for the fight against climate change.

Remy Rioux, chief executive officer at Agence Francaise de Developpement, discusses private funding to fight climate change and the possible impact from Brexit. He speaks with Francine Lacqua

The climate has been a priority for AFD since 2005. Because the climate and development are two interrelated emergencies. Because all over the world, energy and ecological transitions are full of opportunities. Two years after the Paris Agreement, now is the time for action. Climate investments are already underway and result in concrete actions. Alongside our partners, we are seeking to further scale up the movement. So that the investments of today shape the world of tomorrow.

There is something that, on reflection, many adults would surely find repugnant in the idea that they will leave their children a damaged planet that will radically affect their life possibilities. And the Secretary General came back and he said Mr. President I have been listening to you at the General Assembly but I never truly understood what it was you trying to communicate but now I do and I feel and I understand I would do everything that I can”
